SXSW Injects a Clean $99 Million Into Austin Economy...

South-by-Southwest transforms Austin every year, and most locals find themselves shifting their patterns accordingly. But most have a healthy attitude towards the festival - despite the massive influx of outsiders, SXSW is a long-running tradition that brings lots of great music and money into the town.

According to an estimate compiled by Grayhill Partners and released this week, SXSW pumped a cool $99 million into the local economy during its recent, 2009 run. The figure, reported by the Austin Business Journal, does not include an estimated $21.4 million derived from television broadcasts, media reports, and sponsor advertising.

The estimate spans the diverse music, film and interactive components of the festival. SXSW 2010 starts March 11th.
